Embedding Social and Emotional Learning

Schoolwide social and emotional learning is a systemic approach to integrating academic, social, and emotional learning across classrooms, the school building, and in collaboration with families and community partners. This approach provides a learning environment that infuses social and emotional learning into all aspects of instruction and promotes equitable outcomes for all students (CASEL, 2019). In order to see the impact in classrooms, we begin with district efforts. This series will focus on embedding social and emotional learning into district practice with adults and students to support a healthy school climate and promote high-quality instruction. We will use the CASEL Social and Emotional Learning Rubric, adapted by the Michigan Department of Education, to support district implementation efforts.
